Quality Assurance
Delivering consistent, high quality, repeatable castings on time is our goal. To do that, understanding your casting needs is critical in the continual improvement and success of our company. We're committed to strict quality assurance. In fact, all production processes and quality control procedures are fully documented for customer audits. It's our way of ensuring you the best products and service possible. Some of our quality assurance measures include:
- Quality manual meets MIL-I-45208 requirements for both operating procedures and work instructions.
- Pattern and process inspection is performed on every job before entering production.
- Chemistry checked on every ladle poured via in-house spectrograph using the ASTM E-305 arc spark point top plane method.
- Sand is monitored by a Hartley Sand Compactability Controller which checks and makes adjustments to every batch of sand.
- When required, chemistry specimens and test bars are poured along with the casting.
- Testing for physical properties completed in-house.
- Conductivity testing is available in our in-house lab.
- First article inspection reporting when required.
- All measuring devices and instrumentation calibrated per MIL-STD-45662 and traceable to NIST guidelines.
Special Testing
For customers requiring special testing, Erie Bronze will arrange for X-ray, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle and pressure testing to be performed at approved outside sources.
Certification Options
Erie Bronze offers various levels of quality assurance for alloy chemistry.
Nominal Composition: means testing the heat of material and adding the necessary additives to bring the material into specification.
Actual Chemistry: means testing the heat of material, adding the necessary additives to bring the material into specification and taking a final chemistry coupon at the time of pouring.
Actual Chemistry with Test Bars: means testing the heat of material, adding the necessary additives to bring the material into specification, taking a final chemistry coupon at the time of pouring, and pouring test bars for physical property analysis.
